Common Challenges In MBKM And How To Overcome Them

INTRODUCTION TO MBKM CHALLENGES

The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program provides students with opportunities to gain practical experience outside traditional classroom learning. Through internships, student exchanges, independent projects, research activities, and community programs, MBKM helps students develop skills needed in the professional world. However, implementing MBKM is not always easy because students may face various challenges during the process.

Common challenges in MBKM can come from preparation problems, time management issues, limited information, and difficulties adapting to new environments. Understanding these obstacles is important so students can prepare better strategies to overcome them. With proper planning and support, MBKM can become a valuable learning experience that improves both academic and professional abilities.

LACK OF INFORMATION AND PROGRAM UNDERSTANDING

One of the biggest challenges in MBKM is the lack of information about available programs, requirements, and registration procedures. Some students may not fully understand the differences between MBKM activities or how these programs can support their academic goals. Limited knowledge can make students hesitate to participate or choose a program that does not match their interests and skills.

To overcome this challenge, students should actively search for information from official campus sources, MBKM platforms, and academic advisors. Universities also need to provide clear guidance through socialization programs, workshops, and counseling sessions. By improving access to information, students can make better decisions and prepare themselves before joining MBKM activities.

DIFFICULTIES IN TIME MANAGEMENT

Participating in MBKM activities often requires students to balance academic responsibilities with external projects. Students may experience difficulties managing schedules because MBKM programs usually involve real-world tasks, deadlines, and teamwork. Without good time management skills, students may feel overwhelmed and struggle to complete their responsibilities.

The best way to overcome this problem is by creating a structured schedule and setting clear priorities. Students should divide their time between lectures, MBKM activities, assignments, and personal needs. Developing discipline and maintaining consistent communication with mentors can also help students manage their workload more effectively.

ADAPTING TO NEW LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

MBKM allows students to learn in different environments such as companies, organizations, research institutions, or communities. However, adapting to a new environment can be challenging, especially for students who are experiencing professional settings for the first time. Differences in communication styles, work culture, and expectations may require a period of adjustment.

Students can overcome this challenge by building an open mindset and being willing to learn from others. Developing communication skills, teamwork abilities, and professional attitudes will help students adapt more quickly. Asking questions, accepting feedback, and observing workplace practices are also important steps for successful adaptation.

LIMITED SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Another challenge in MBKM is that some students may feel unprepared because they lack technical skills or previous professional experience. When entering internships or project-based programs, students may face tasks that require abilities they have not mastered before. This situation can create pressure and reduce confidence.

To overcome this issue, students should improve their skills before and during the MBKM program. They can take online courses, attend training sessions, join student organizations, or practice relevant skills independently. MBKM itself is designed as a learning opportunity, so students should view challenges as a chance to grow rather than a limitation.

COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION PROBLEMS

MBKM activities often involve collaboration with lecturers, companies, mentors, and other students from different backgrounds. Differences in communication styles can sometimes create misunderstandings during teamwork. Poor communication may affect project progress and reduce the effectiveness of collaboration.

Students can solve this challenge by improving active listening and expressing ideas clearly. Maintaining regular communication with team members and mentors helps prevent confusion and ensures everyone understands their responsibilities. Strong collaboration skills will also become valuable assets for students when entering the professional world.

FINANCIAL AND ACCESSIBILITY CONCERNS

Although MBKM provides many benefits, some students may face financial challenges, especially when programs require transportation, accommodation, or additional learning resources. Students from different regions may experience different levels of accessibility to MBKM opportunities. These factors can influence their ability to participate fully.

To address this challenge, students should explore available financial support such as scholarships, campus assistance, or program funding opportunities. Universities and related institutions also need to ensure MBKM programs are accessible for students from various backgrounds. Equal access will help more students gain valuable learning experiences through MBKM.

CONCLUSION

MBKM offers significant opportunities for students to develop knowledge, skills, and professional experience beyond traditional education. However, challenges such as limited information, time management difficulties, adaptation problems, skill gaps, communication issues, and financial barriers may appear during the process.

These challenges can be overcome through proper preparation, active learning, good communication, and strong support from universities and partners. By facing obstacles with the right strategies, students can maximize the benefits of MBKM and become more prepared for future career opportunities.
