Responding to economic challenges during the pandemic, STEKOM University held another international webinar on September 15, 2021 (15/09/2021). “Emerging Business in New Normal†was the theme conducted in this webinar and attended by 4 speakers of 3 countries. This webinar took place from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There are 654 registered participants with 68% attendance percentage. The topic on how the pandemic affects the global economy, the role of digitalization in business and the economy, and designing strategies to win business during the pandemic, succeed to attract the participant’s enthusiasm until the end of the event.
The activity began with solemn prayer and singing of the Indonesia Raya anthem. Then, Mrs. Ratih Dwi Arman, M.Si. as Director of International Affair STEKOM University delivered an Opening Speech to represent the Rector of STEKOM University, Dr. Joseph Teguh Santoso, M.Kom., who was unable to attend the webinar at that time. In the Opening Speech, it was expressed the hope that with this webinar, participants can get more information about starting up a business in the new normal era.
The first session was presented by Damir Bikulov, Doctor of Public Administration Professor at Zaporizhzhia National University, Ukraine. Damir Bikulov said that a high percentage of shadow economics poses a complex challenge to the Ukrainian economy. Low awareness of the administration and taxes payment of an entrepreneur becomes a significant problem for them. Damir also said that the solution to this problem was the digitization of public administration.
Damir Bikulov managed to provide an overview of how important the administration and taxes payment of an entrepreneur is to the economic sector. In addition, the basic concept of how important digitalization in the economic sector is also delivered indirectly.
The second session started with an explanation about business and online business by Agness Mosanda, Head of Management Department at St John the Baptist University, Malawi. Interestingly, Agness Mosanda explained online business in more detail than general business explanations. This seems to give a hint that online business is a potential choice in the pandemic era. Then, participants were given an overview of the negative and positive impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the end of the presentation, Agness concluded that in the crisis that we don’t know when it will end, all we can do is think forward and see and take advantage of the positive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the third session, Ida Hendriyani, S.Pd., M.Hum., took part as a speaker. Ida shared a lot about Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). She conveyed that "Micro Small Medium Enterprise in Indonesia plays an influential role in the Indonesian economy,". She explained the big role of MSMEs in the Indonesian economy. Furthermore re, this STEKOM University Lecturer conveyed various strategies in building a strong business and being able to compete in the pandemic era. Ida gave an understanding to the participants that in high economic flexibility during a pandemic, business or business owners must also be able to act flexibly and adapt to changes that occur. The session from Ida Hendriyani is the last presentation in this webinar.
After all presentations ended, the moderator opened a Q&A session. The participants enthusiastically asked questions to all of the speakers. The Q&A is about 30 minutes. After finishing, the moderator and MC then closed the event and said goodbye to the speakers and participants from 3 countries.
In addition to the crises in various sectors during the pandemic, the emergence of business potential has also occurred a lot. In this webinar, we were shown not only about the crisis or the effect of the pandemic in various sectors, the important thing that we were also invited to see the various positive things that have emerged in this era. The ability to adapt, analyze, and take advantage of the potential of every changed situation is an important skill to survive and win business in this new normal era.
